Situated between the Rupin and Supin Valley, the Baraadsar Lake trek is one of the most sacred treks in Uttarakhand. These nine-day treks take you amid the forest and lead you to the Baraadsar lake. Many local people believe that this lake has the power to fulfil your wishes. However, we are not sure about the wishes, but this trek will give you the most glorious look at the mountains, and you can click incredible landscapes from here. How Can You Reach For The Baraadsar Lake Trek?

To begin with the Baraadsar Lake trek, one must reach Dhaula village, which is approx 177 km away from Dehradun. So no matter where you are, you must reach Dehradun, from where you can easily find buses or cabs to Dhaula village. Here are a few convenient commutes to travelling to Dehradun:

By Road: With good road connectivity and NH7, travelling to Dehradun is comfortable no matter where you travel. There are also bus services and shared cab facilities available. By Air: Dehradun has a domestic airport, and many cities have a direct flight to this airport. By Train: The Dehradun Junction has good connectivity with most cities. You can board Shatabdi, Rajdhani, or Garib-rath for a convenient train journey.

What Is The Best Time To Go On The Baraadsar Lake Trek?

The best time to visit the trek is from June to September, the weather is pleasant during this time, and you will enjoy your hike. You may also get to see the snow-covered mountains during this time. However, if you plan to go on this trek during the monsoon, keep a hiking pole handy, as the trails may get slippery. Also, avoid winter, as the routes are closed, and the trek gets dangerous.

Day 1 : Dehradun to Himri: Start your tour from the 'Abode of Drona' (235 km) (9/10 Hours) (1878 Meter)

Day 2 : Himri to Saaru Taal: Find your way through the dense pine covered forest!

Day 3 :Saaru Taal to Badang: Walk through the pine forest and ascend the rocky trails!

Day 4 :Dhal Dhar to Dev Bhasa: Take a short hike up the scenic view!

Day 5 : Dev Bhasa to Baraadsar Meadow: Be prepared for the longest day of this trek!

Day 6:Baraadsar meadow to Baraadsar lake: Climb up the summit and walk back to the Dev Basa campsite!

Day 7 :Dev Bhasa to Upper Rehala: Walk towards the entry point of the civilization!

 

Day 8:Upper Rehala to Sankri: Continue your journey backwards via Jhakhol!

Day 9:Sankri to Dehradun: The final day of the trip!

 Day 1 : Dehradun to Himri: Start your tour from the 'Abode of Drona' (235 km) (9/10 Hours) (1878 Meter)

● Reach Dehradun one day in advance as you will travel 210 km to Dhaula. From this village, your hike will begin.
● On the way, you will see Mussoorie, Purola, Mori and Naitwar.
● Enjoy the scenic route in this 12-hour drive and take short breaks to enjoy snacks and breakfast from the local restaurants.
● Enjoy passing on the route surrounded by the pine forest.
● You will stay at the base camp at Himri, which is around 4 km from Dhaula village.
● As Himri is on the banks of Rupin, you can see it nestled between the pine and other coniferous trees. This campsite is at a height of 4820 feet.

Day 2 : Himri to Saaru Taal: Find your way through the dense pine covered forest!

● From Himri, you will trek 8 km to reach a height of 7500 feet. Saaru Taal is a tiny village located in Bitri.
● The trails to reach the campsite today are steep, so keep a firm grip.
● You will climb up through the forest covered with pine trees.
● Take a short break in Jujraili, where you enjoy snacks and admire the intriguing landscapes.
● As there are several diversions in the forest, you must ask the local people for directions.
● As you will not find any water source today, you must keep your bottles refilled.
● When you reach the campsite, relax for a while and settle. After which you can explore the area till the evening.
● You can visit the temple in Bitri, which is among the most famous tourist destinations.
● End your day with some delicious meal under the starry sky.

Day 3 :Saaru Taal to Badang: Walk through the pine forest and ascend the rocky trails!

● Start your day by enjoying the view of the sunrise.
● You will travel for 7.2km to reach a height of 9700 feet.
● Eat some healthy breakfast and get ready to climb up to the Badang campsite.
● Today's hike will be challenging as you walk through the rocky mountains.
● After an hour's hike, you will reach a small water stream from where you can fill your water bottles. From here, the pine forest will start, and the trails will improve.
● Once you get out of the forest trail, you will have to make a 2 km steep ascend. So make sure you complete this part at your own pace, as you will see various Himalayan birds in this area. ● Near the campsite, you will see the green meadows surrounded by the deodar forest. ● Find accommodation for the night, and get ready to explore the nearby area.
● In the late evening, enjoy dinner under the starry sky, after which you must sleep as you will need proper rest before the trek tomorrow.

Day 4 :Dhal Dhar to Dev Bhasa: Take a short hike up the scenic view!,

● Start your day with breakfast with a fantastic view, and get ready to climb up for two hours to reach 11,900 feet.
● You will walk up the steep path for almost a kilometre, after which you will have to descend downwards to reach the campsite.
● Your campsite today will be near two adjoining mountains.
● There is a nearby water source at a distance of 2km from the campsite, so you can hike up here to get water. ● From here, you get a clear view of the Gangotri range.
● Eat an early dinner today as you climb up to the Baraadsar meadow camp, and it will be a long day.

Day 5 : Dev Bhasa to Baraadsar Meadow: Be prepared for the longest day of this trek!

● Start your day early, as you will have a long day. You will walk up the distance of 7 km to reach 13,120 feet.
● Today's hike is undoubtedly the most difficult one.
● You have the option to take the longer route or the shorter one. The longer trails go from the left and go across the mountains. However, for the shortcut, you will have to climb up steeply.
● The ridge is around 4.5 hours away from here. After which you have to walk for three more hours before you reach the campsite.
● Keep your hiking poles handy, as you will require them for the trek today.
● After you cross the bridge, the paths get a bit difficult, and the weather will be chilly, so wear warm clothing.
● You will not find any water source here except the melting snow. So make sure you carry sufficient water and other eating items with you.

Day 6:Baraadsar meadow to Baraadsar lake: Climb up the summit and walk back to the Dev Basa campsite!

● Start your day with another magnificent sunrise, and get ready to walk up the Baraadsar Lake, which is 11,900 feet.
● You cannot see the lake from your campsite, but the ridge is visible from here.
● The lake is only a few hours away from the campsite, but start your trek easier as you hike to Dev Basa.
● As there is a rocky path, make sure you walk slowly and carefully.
● After you have explored the Baraadsar, it's time to move back and start your descent.
● Once you reach the Dev Bhasa, find campsite accommodation and rest.
● Enjoy sharing stories with your fellow travellers sitting near the bonfire in the evening.
● End your day with some wholesome meal and rest for the night

Day 7 :Dev Bhasa to Upper Rehala: Walk towards the entry point of the civilization!

● Wrap up your things and get ready to descend to Upper Rehala.
● You will come across Dhal Dhar, an hour from the Dev Bhasa campsite.
● There are many stones and pebbles on the way, so keep a firm foot grip while walking downwards.
● On the way, you will come across a water stream from where you can fill your water bottles to keep yourself hydrated.
● After a two-hour walk, you will reach the expansive meadows surrounded by pine trees. You can take a short break here and rest.
● At the end of the forest trail, you will see terrace farming where rajma and wheat are grown.
● You will stay near this area for the night, so get a tent accommodation and get settled.
● In the evening, admire the mountains from the foothills and see the setting sun.
● End your day with some tasty dinner and head to your tent to sleep for the night.

Day 8:Upper Rehala to Sankri: Continue your journey backwards via Jhakhol!

● Fuel yourself with a tasty breakfast and prepare yourself to continue your trek.
● Today you will walk downhill so that it will be a relaxing day. So spend your time taking some fantastic images.
● On the way, you will see the water stream from where you can fill your bottles.
● As you ascend down, you will see the Supin river, where small tea stalls are nearby. You can take a short break here.
● You will have to walk uphill to reach Jakhol village. After you arrive here, take a taxi to Sankri, 16 km from Jakhol.
● Today you will stay in Sankri, so find accommodation and stay the night in the foothill of the mountains.

Day 9:Sankri to Dehradun: The final day of the trip!

● Enjoy your last breakfast with a fantastic view.
● Wrap your things and get ready to return home.
● Get a direct bus or taxi to Dehradun.
● When you reach Dehradun, you can stay here for the night or return home.
● If you stay in Dehradun, find accommodation and get ready to explore Dehradun.
● In the evening, visit some famous landmarks and end your day with a tasty dinner.
● Enjoy your last day in Uttarakhand.
Everything You Must Know Before Going On The Baraadsar Lake Trek
1. As it is a challenging trek, you must get a complete body checkup to determine whether you are fit for the walk.
2. Take valid Id proof.
3. Make sure you carry at least two water bottles you can fill through the trek.
4. Carry a garbage bag to avoid littering the trails.
5. Make sure you carry some healthy snacks to eat on the way.
6. As you will have to climb and descend the steep paths, don't forget to carry a walking stick.
7. Discuss the complete trek with your guide and ask them about the procedure during emergencies.
8. Carry comfortable and warm clothing. Also, always wear good hiking shoes.
9. Keep a well-stocked medical kit and also any ongoing medicine.
10. Never go on this trek with a blocked nose.
11. Carry a small flashlight and a mosquito repellent.
12. Lastly, ensure your bag is sturdy, as you will carry it throughout the trek.

  Backpack (50 to 60 liters) A strongly built backpack with good support is compulsory for a trek. (Rain cover is important)
 Sturdy Trekking Shoes The shoes should be strong enough with good support. The people ask if sports shoes would be comfortable but it is good to bring the right trekking shoes.
 The Clothes You Should Bring On a Trek Avoid keeping extra clothes because it only makes you backpack heavy.
 Trek Pants – The jeans are never suitable for a trek so you need at least 2-3 trek pants for treks carry more for longer treks.
 Jacket – Jackets are very important to carry on a trek it protects you against the chilly weather. So carry 2 jackets on a week long trek.
 Layers of warm Clothing  Carry warm woolen layers or fleece. Carry more layers during winter season (at least 2 to 3) and less during summer.
