Himalayan Trekking Summer Camps 2024

Specially designed outdoor programmes for children aged 10-14

Why send your child?

Our trekking summer camp is an experiential learning programme for children. While the children climb to a summit in the Himalayas, unknown to them, we are conducting a programme that imparts life values and skills. It is designed such that children learn collaborative skills: to build relationships, handle conflicts, and share control. They gain confidence, resilience, and the ability to deal with hardships. When your children return from the trekking summer camp, they will have changed. The lessons they take back are immense. It is not possible to imbibe these values and skills in our day-to-day lives or even at school. So if your child is between the ages of 10 and 14, this is a priceless adventure. You will see recognisable changes in them, lasting all the way into adulthood. We saw this unfold before our eyes in our 2023 and 2024 summer camps, taking over 1000 children across the two years. You’ll see multiple parents vouching for the summer camp below.

The Best Beginner-Friendly Summit Climbs

Kedarkantha is a renowned winter trek situated in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. This trek stands out for its serene beauty, captivating landscapes, and being a fantastic choice for novice trekkers eager to experience a snow-covered mountain adventure.

The journey to the Kedarkantha summit is marked by breathtaking snow trails, alpine meadows, and dense forests of oak and pine trees. The clear, crisp winter air, combined with the beauty of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, offers a truly unique experience.

The trek starts from Sankri, a picturesque village, and gradually ascends through various campsites. The path to the top is well-marked and offers clear views of the Kedarkantha peak, which provides trekkers with a sense of motivation as they make their way toward the summit.

The climb to the summit itself is rewarding, with the last stretch offering thrilling snow-covered slopes, leading to panoramic views of peaks like Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch. The sense of accomplishment once at the top, surrounded by stunning vistas, makes the trek memorable for both beginners and experienced trekkers alike.

While the trek is accessible, it’s important to remain cautious as the weather can change rapidly, and trekkers should be prepared with appropriate clothing and equipment.

1. Variety of Routes to the Summit

One of the most appealing aspects of Kedarkantha is the variety of routes leading to the summit. Each route offers a unique experience, whether you’re looking for solitude or seeking a more scenic route depending on the season. The flexibility in trail choices adds a personal touch to the journey, catering to different preferences and enhancing the overall experience.

2. Scenic Drive to Base Camp

The adventure begins even before you start trekking. The drive to the base camp is a picturesque experience, with a winding road through dense pine forests and along the Mori Valley, beside the beautiful River Tons. This 18-km stretch is as visually stunning as it is peaceful, offering trekkers an unforgettable introduction to the trek.

3. Cultural Immersion in Kotgaon

The trek provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture, especially in the village of Kotgaon. Spending the first and last nights here lets you experience the authentic lifestyle of the region’s people. From the unique Koti Banal architecture of their homes to their traditional clothing, you get a glimpse into the village’s rich cultural heritage, adding a meaningful layer to your trekking adventure.

4. Pristine Forests

The stretch of forests on the Kedarkantha trek, especially from Kotgaon to the summit, is a highlight. These forests are serene and untouched, with towering trees, thick canopies, and diverse plant life. The interplay of sunlight filtering through the trees creates an almost magical atmosphere that envelops trekkers. Walking through these lush, unspoiled woods provides a deep sense of connection with nature.

5. Beautiful Clearings and Campsites

Throughout the trek, you’ll encounter clearings that serve as perfect spots for rest, meals, and camping. These clearings offer breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The sunsets here are nothing short of spectacular, with one of the most remarkable views being from Bhoja Dhadi. The strategically placed campsites ensure that each day feels well-paced and balanced.

6. Multiple Routes for Flexibility

Kedarkantha, as a standalone peak, offers various routes to the summit. Each route offers different perspectives, whether you seek a peaceful experience away from crowds or prefer a more scenic route. The ability to choose and adapt your path based on weather conditions or your preferences adds to the trek’s flexibility and appeal.

7. The Summit Climb

Reaching the summit of Kedarkantha is the crowning achievement of the trek. The final climb is both steep and exhilarating, but the views you encounter along the way make every step worthwhile. As the summit comes into view from the base camp, the anticipation builds. When you finally reach the top, the panoramic vistas of the majestic upper Himalayas fill you with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. The summit experience is truly unforgettable, and few other treks offer such a rewarding feeling of success.
