Located in the Tons valley, surrounded by the dense forest and stunning lake, you will love this trek. Ruinsara lakes offer a majestic view of the mountains and Himalayan peaks. When you embrace this trek, you will walk through some of the most adventurous trails and get the opportunity to get closer to nature. These are the same trails where Pandavas travelled during their fourteen years of exile. So these valleys indeed have a lot of mythological stories which you can know more about from the local people. Also, the Ruinsara lake trek is easy for anyone above 12 years. So if you plan to go on this hike, here is everything you should know.

How Can You Reach The Ruinsara Lake Trek?

To begin with the Ruinsara Lake trek, one must reach Taluka village, 212 km away from Dehradun. So no matter where you are, you must reach Dehradun, from where you can easily find buses to Sankri or shared cabs to Taluka. When going on Ruinsara Lake Trek, you have two options: take an overnight stay at the Sankari campsite and leave early in the morning for Taluka or directly reach Taluka and rest there for the night before the trek. Here are a few convenient commutes to travelling to Dehradun: By Road: With good road connectivity and NH7, travelling to Dehradun is comfortable no matter where you travel. There are also bus services and shared cab facilities available. By Air: Dehradun has a domestic airport, and many cities have a direct flight to this airport. By Train: The Dehradun Junction has good connectivity with most cities. You can board Shatabdi, Rajdhani, or Garib-rath for a convenient train journey.

What Is The Best Time To Go On A Ruinsara Lake Trek?

If you want to see the snow-covered mountains, winter is the best time to visit the Ruinsara Lake Trek. However, you can choose March, as the weather is better than in other winter months. Other than that, if you are looking for the best time of the year to embark on this trek, choose April to November- the weather is pleasant, and you will see blossomed Rhododendron flowers on your trails. As the treks peak point is at 11,482 feet, avoid winters if you have breathing problems or don't like a lot of cold weather.

Day 1 : Dehradun to Sankri: Reach the beautiful capital of Uttarakhand!

 200 km
● Take a bus, train or flight to reach Dehradun. ● Once in Dehradun, you can find a bus or taxi to Sankri. ● Enjoy the scenic view on your way to Sankri. ● You can take a few short breaks in the local food stalls and refresh. ● It is 196 km and will take approx 8-9 hours. ● Once you are in Sankri, find campsite accommodation or a homestay. ● Get refreshed and have time to explore the Sankri village. ● In the late evening, enjoy a nice dinner and learn more about the trek tomorrow. ● Head back to your accommodation and rest for the night to rejuvenate your body for tomorrow's hike.

Day 2 : Sankri to Bheduka: Take a taxi to Taluka and start your hike!

 1 hour drive
 5-6 hours' hike:
14 km

● You will start your day with a healthy breakfast and get ready to head to Taluka in a taxi. Taluka is just 12 km from here. ● After you reach Taluka, flex your muscles and get ready to start your hike. ● Today you will hike to Bheduka, which is at 1815 metres. ● The trails to this trek descend to the riverside valley. ● You will walk through the thick forest with chestnuts, walnuts, willows, chinars and conifer trees. ● Get a chance to encounter wildlife in its natural habitat.

● When you reach Bheduka village, find campsite accommodation. ● Enjoy a warm dinner under the starry sky, sitting beside a bonfire.● Now head back to your tent and sleep for the night.

Day 3 : Bheduka to Dev Thach: Walk between the mighty mountains and get a glance of Osla village!

● Eat your breakfast and get ready to head towards Dev Thach at the height of 3000 metres. ● On the way to this trek, you will walk through the forest opposite Osla village. ● On this trail, you will also see a lot of tea stalls where you can take short breaks. ● Once you reach Dev Thach, you will get welcomed by the large alpine meadows. ● In Dev Thach, find camp accommodation, rest for a while and get ready to explore the nearby area. ● You will get a majestic view of Mt. Kalanag and the Black peak mountains from your campsite. ● Now it's time to enjoby another meal under the starry sky and head back to your tent to sleep.

Day 4 : Dev Thach to Ruinsara Lake: Walk through the majestic trails to this beautiful valley!(3,600 m)

● Start your day with the sight of magnificent sunlight and get freshen up to eat your breakfast. ● Now it's time to get ready to head towards the Ruinsara Lake camp accommodation at 3500 metres. ● Walk through the lush green field and scenic route. ● There are some local food stalls on the way where you can take short breaks and fill your water bottles. ● Halfway through the trek, you will see floral pastures where shepherds from the nearby villages bring their sheep. ● As Ruinsara lake is considered sacred, you will find great peace and calm there.

● Once you are in Ruinsara lake, you will have to trek up to the central valley, where you will stay for the night. ● After you get settled in your tent accommodation, it's time to take out your camera and capture some majestic mountain images. ● Today you will enjoy an exceptional meal under the starry sky with the mighty mountains guarding you in all directions. ● Once you are tired, head back to your tent and rest.

Day 5 : RUINSARA LAKE (3,600 M) - REST AND EXPLORE: Ruinsara lake (3,600 m) - rest and explore

● Today you will spend your day in Ruinsara, so get ready to explore this majestic valley. ● After breakfast, head to the lake and spend some time relaxing. ● You can also visit Bandarpunch Peak, another excellent location to explore nearby. ● Enjoy your lunch on the Bandarpunch Peak and relax till late afternoon. ● Later it's time to head back to the Runisara campsite, where you will enjoy a nice bonfire. ● Eat your dinner and head to your tent to sleep as you start your return trip tomorrow.

Day 6 : Ruinsara Lake to Dev Thach: Descend the valley and splash through the streams!(3,560 m).

● Start your day with a beautiful sunrise falling on your face. ● Next, enjoy a great breakfast with an incredible view. ● Fill your bottles from the nearby water stream and get ready to head back to the Dev Thach village. ● On your way around, spend some extra time near the river sides and soak in nature's fragrance. ● After you reach the Dev Thach village, get your campsite accommodation. ● Enjoy your dinner and sleep through the night to get energised

Day 7 : Dev Thach to Bheduka: Capture the Himalayan ranges with your camera!

4-5 hours' of trekking : 14 km
1 hour drive : 10 km
● Wake to another beautiful sunrise and enjoy breakfast with some pleasant scenic sights. ● Start your journey downwards and enjoy the trails of the forest and mighty mountain ranges. ● Take short breaks to eat snacks and click incredibly awesome landscape images. ● Keep your walking sticks handy as the way may get slippery, and you would want a firm grip while walking. ● Once you reach the Bhedka village, find campsite accommodation and relax. ● Spend another night under the starry sky enjoying your dinner and the warmth of the bonfire.

Day 8 : Bheduka to Sankri: Pause and embrace every moment of the trek!

200 km ● After you eat your breakfast, it's time to head towards Taluka village. ● Enjoy walking through the beautiful trails as it is your last hike day. ● Interact with the local people in the towns you cross and get to know some local stories. ● You can even buy some small souvenirs from local shops on the way. ● From Taluka, get a taxi to Sankri village, as you will stay here for the night. ● At Sankri, enjoy your dinner and rest for the night.

DAY: 9 Sankri to Dehradun: Bundle up all the memories and pack up to return home!

● Wake up early to the mountains' beautiful view and enjoy breakfast. ● Later, wrap up stuff, bundle up your memories, and board a bus or taxi to Dehradun. ● Keep your snacks handy for the route, and take small breaks to make this return journey fun. ● You will reach Dehradun in the afternoon; now, you can either spend a night here or return to your home. ● If you stay in Dehradun, you can visit all the famous spots in the city like the Budha temple, Tapkeshwar temple, Robber's cave, Pacific mall, Clock tower etc. ● If you extend your stay in Dehradun, you can visit nearby places like Mussoorie, Rishikesh, and Haridwar.

Everything You Must Know Before Going On Ruinsara Lake Trek!

1. Carry a valid identity proof. 2. Pack your bag with comfortable clothing for the hike, and ensure that your shoes have a good grip. 3. Carry some extra warm clothes, especially if you are travelling during the winter. 4. Don't forget your walking stick as it will make your journey more convenient. 5. Carry two one-litre water bottles and keep them refilled, as there are a few areas where you may not get water. 6. Keep your camera and mobile charged, and carry an extra power bank. 7. If you are travelling during the monsoon, carry some mosquito repellents, as there may be many inspections during this time. 8. Carry a portable torch with extra batteries. 9. Keep some healthy snacks to munch on the way as you may get hungry while walking for a long distance. 10. Make sure you pack all your medication and first aid for emergencies. 11. Do not carry many unnecessary things as you don't want to stress yourself lugging around extra things. 12.  Backpack (50 to 60 liters) A strongly built backpack with good support is compulsory for a trek. (Rain cover is important)
 Sturdy Trekking Shoes The shoes should be strong enough with good support. The people ask if sports shoes would be comfortable but it is good to bring the right trekking shoes.
 The Clothes You Should Bring On a Trek Avoid keeping extra clothes because it only makes you backpack heavy.
 Trek Pants – The jeans are never suitable for a trek so you need at least 2-3 trek pants for treks carry more for longer treks.
 Jacket – Jackets are very important to carry on a trek it protects you against the chilly weather. So carry 2 jackets on a week long trek.
 Layers of warm Clothing  Carry warm woolen layers or fleece. Carry more layers during winter season (at least 2 to 3) and less during summer.
 Thermals – The Temperature decreases at night so you might be need thermals for Night.
